What to Expect

As you are floating high above the beautiful Costa Brava, the wind gently carrying you over a mix of green fields, rough hills, and a peek of the sparkling sea. That’s what you’ll get with our hot air balloon costa Brava tour, a shared adventure that’s perfect for families, couples, or anyone who loves a good view. Not just a ride; it’s a chance to see Catalonia’s Empordà region from a whole new angle, and it’s worth every penny.

When you sign up for one of our hot air balloon rides in Girona, you’re in for a relaxed yet exciting morning. The whole thing lasts about three hours, but the flight itself is around an hour, plenty of time to soak in the sights. You’ll meet up early around 6:30 or 7:45, just as the sun’s coming up, because that’s when the air is calmest.

Don’t worry, we’ll keep you busy: you can help inflate the balloon if you want, which is pretty cool to watch as it grows huge right in front of you. Once you’re up in the Costa Brava balloon ride, it’s all quiet and smooth, with the pilot pointing out landmarks below. After landing, we celebrate with a glass of cava (that’s Spanish bubbly) and a fluffy almond cake, think of it as a little toast to your adventure.

This economical trip is for everyone, but we recommend children below the age of 5 to not participate in the Costa Brava Balloon tours ascent.

Key attractions
  • Emporda Landscape The star of this trip is the Empordà landscape itself. As you drift up to about 1,200 meters, you’ll catch sight of the Costa Brava coastline winding along the Mediterranean, with little villages tucked into the countryside below.
  • The Pyreness On a clear day, you might even spot the Pyrenees off in the distance. It’s a peaceful, slow-moving show of nature and human life bound together, and you’ll feel like you’re part of the flock of birds gliding past you making this ascent a heavenly experience.
  • Costa Brava Coast As you float high above in your hot air balloon, the Medes Islands pop into view, a handful of tiny dots off the Costa Brava coast surrounded by shimmering blue water. They’re a haven for birds and sea life, and from up here, you can see why people love exploring them by boat or diving below.
  • River TerThe River Ter winds through the land like a silvery thread, cutting across the green fields you’ll glide over. It’s a peaceful sight, stretching all the way from the mountains to the sea, and you’ll spot it sparkling under the morning sun.
  • Gulf of RosesLooking toward the coast, the Gulf of Roses opens up, a wide curve of sandy beaches and calm waves. From the balloon, it’s a perfect arc of shoreline that feels close enough to touch, even from hundreds of meters up.
  • Gulf of PalsNearby, the Gulf of Pals catches your eye with its quieter, less crowded beaches and patches of pine trees cuddling the shorelines. It’s a little spot you’ll appreciate even more from the sky, framed by the rolling Empordà countryside.
  • Cap the CreusThen there’s Cap de Creus, a wild, rocky headland jutting out into the sea, looking awesome even from way up high. As you drift, its cliffs and coves stand out, showing off the raw, untouched side of this corner of Spain.

Itinerary

6:30 AM - 7:45 AMArrival

Your day starts bright and early near Girona, where we’ll pick a spot based on the wind—could be near Figueres or another Empordà town. First, you’ll see the crew set up the hot air balloon flights in empordà, and if you’re curious, they’ll let you pitch in.

Take Flight

Then, it’s lift-off! You’ll float over the countryside, catching views of farms, forests, and that famous coast. The pilot knows the area like the back of his hand, so you’ll hear stories about what’s below.

7:30 AM - 8:45 AMReturn

After about an hour, you’ll touch down wherever the wind takes us (don’t worry, a van follows to bring you back). We wrap up with cava, snacks, and offer a personalized souvenir photo magnet to prove you’ve conquered the skies with hot air balloon emporda.

FAQ

When can we go?

We fly all year round, mostly on weekends, but weekdays work too if the weather’s good. It’s got to be calm usually, no rain, no strong winds (under 20 km/h). If it’s a no-go, we’ll reschedule, no hassle.

Who can Join the tour?

Almost anyone can join. But we recommend kids over 5 are welcome, but we don’t recommend it for pregnant women, just to be safe.

What should I wear?

Dress comfy; think layers, sneakers, and maybe a hat. It’s not cold up there, but mornings can be chilly on the ground.

How many people fly at once?

It’s a shared tour, so you’ll be with a small group, usually 20, depending on the balloon size. Makes it cozy and fun!

Does the balloon make you dizzy?

The balloon does not give vertigo, since the sensation is not of being at a very high point, but of floating.

Is it cold up there?

No, it is not cold, since the burners give off a lot of heat, you’ll feel much warmer.

Does the balloon swing?

No, the balloon does not swing. Once we go up, we move with the wind and this means that there is no swaying.
